Construction is currently underway at the Physical Training test-approved rubberized track next to the fitness center at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M.

Opened for use in November 2009, the track has gone through the wear and tear of thousands of PT-testers and recreational runners sprinting toward their goals. Due to the high volume of use, parts of the track were in need of repair.

"We took this time to not only fix the track, but to give it an upgrade as well," said Rob Ewers, 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron sports and fitness director. "The new synthetic material being laid has nearly twice the cushion of the old, and has a reputation for being more durable."

The closure of the track during construction does not mean official PT tests are at a stand-still. A temporary running route has been created for this purpose and the tests will begin, as normal, at the fitness center.
