Air Commandos at the 27th Special Operations Wing are being given the opportunity not only to serve their country, but to also support their community by pledging toward various charities through the Combined Federal Campaign at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M.

The annual campaign is scheduled to run Oct. 28 through Dec. 8, allowing base personnel time to contribute.

Last year Cannon raised $162,000 by the campaign's end, Dec. 15, 2012.

"Military and civilian federal employees are an important part of each and every community where we live and work," said Capt. Kaelin Thistlewood, 16th Special Operations Squadron aircraft commander and Cannon CFC project manager.

According to the Desert Southwest CFC website, federal employees and military personnel can help make a difference in the international, national and local communities through their contribution to the CFC.

In 2012, the New Mexico CFC added an online pledging option for all federal employees through CFC Nexus. This year, Federal agencies with Defense Finance and Accounting Services payroll can make online pledges directly through myPay.

There are several categories to choose from when considering a pledge, including medical research, animal care, the environment, education, reducing homelessness, community advocacy, social programs and much more through the CFC payroll deduction. A one-time gift may also be given to the charity through this campaign. A small investment per pay period can make a huge impact in the lives of others.
