Col. Tony Bauernfeind, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Paul Henderson, 27 SOW command chief, officially cut the ribbon on a new dormitory for Air Commandos Sept. 6 at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. The $12.4 million project was initiated in April 2012.

With the rising number of young Airmen assigned to Cannon, the completion of a new dormitory building is a welcome sight for base residents.

Based on the Air Force's Dorms-4-Airmen concept, the building will boast 96 individual rooms, each with its own private bathroom. Four rooms will make up a quad unit, and each unit is equipped with a full kitchen including an oven, microwave and refrigerator, as well as a washer and dryer. There is a small common area in each building and private personal storage space for each resident. To top it off, each room is furnished with brand-new furniture.

"This is the first of three key dorms that will help ease overcrowding and put our Airmen in top-quality living conditions, ultimately allowing them to enhance our mission by enabling precise, reliable, flexible and responsive specialized air power for our Joint Service teammates." Bauernfeind said.
