2014 Water Quality Report Published June 30, 2015 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- According to Col. Ben Maitre, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, an important part of our day-to-day operations involves providing high-quality, safe and reliable drinking water to Air Commandos, their families and guests. The annual Water Quality Report is the wing’s way of publicly showing the results of these efforts. It summarizes the results of sampling by bioenvironmental engineering and the on-going operations by the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron. All of the Cannon water samples are collected on base and sent to a state-certified drinking water laboratory for analysis. The report outlines: where your water comes from, how it is being protected and what is in the water. Air Commandos should take comfort in knowing that Cannon uses groundwater as the source for all potable water supplied to the installation and Chavez housing areas. Water is extracted from the Ogallala Aquifer using seven wells located on base property. Because water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it can acquire naturally occurring minerals. This report details what natural substances may be present in source water. The bioenvironmental engineering flight is happy to answer questions about the report or drinking water, and be contacted at 575-784-4063. Click here to view the full report.
