The United States Air Force relies heavily upon its Air Commandos utilizing the plethora of aerial assets at its disposal to carry out the daily mission. On Aug. 19, Airmen and other aircraft enthusiasts observe National Aviation Day, a celebration for the development of air power.

In 1939, the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued a presidential proclamation which designated Aug. 19 as National Aviation Day, in honor of one of aviation’s pioneers, Orville Wright.

As Air Commandos, this observation highlights the advancements the Air Force has made since its inception. From the early days of aviation with single prop aircraft to today’s use of remotely piloted aircraft, the extensive history of aviation and deep appreciation for the advancement of aerial technology is instilled upon those who proudly wear the uniform.

Through various community outreach programs such as the Base Tour Program and the Honorary Commanders Program, Air Commandos assigned to Cannon have the opportunity to inspire the next generation of aerial enthusiast and ensure that the innovative dreams of Orville Wright continue to soar.
