CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Cannon embraced its newest master sergeant selects as they ascended into the upper-most tier of Air Force enlisted leadership during the Senior Noncommissioned Officer Induction Ceremony Friday at the Landing Zone.
The purpose of the SNCO Induction Ceremony is to formally recognize SNCOs for their achievements and provide newly selected master sergeants with a comprehensive view of their increased operational responsibilities. Additionally, the ceremony allows wing leadership, peers and family the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of their respective Air Commandos.
Throughout the evening, guests actively engaged as Chief Master Sergeant (ret) Wayne Norrad, former senior enlisted leader for Air Force Special Operations Command, emphasized the importance of fulfilling the expectations of the sixth inverted stripe on their sleeve.
"You will notice that the sixth stripe is inverted from the rest," said Norrad. "It reminds me of a roof; a reminder that it’s your duty to shelter and protect those who are subordinate under you."
At the ceremony's conclusion, inductees departed the Landing Zone with a better understanding of the essential part they play in molding the Air Force’s Airmen of tomorrow and a greater sense of duty.
