CGO neighborhood nearing completion

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  In a continued effort to providing quality living for Air Commandos and their families, Balfour Beatty Communities is moving quickly to finalize company grade officer housing.

Members of the 27th Special Operations Wing gathered on Anaconda Loop to watch Capt. Rex Peacock, 27th Special Operations Air Operations Squadron, eagerly cut the ribbon on his brand new BBC home Dec. 3.

“This is a time for us to acknowledge all of the efforts that have gone toward helping our Air Commandos and their families thrive,” said Col. Ben Maitre, 27th SOW commander. “Our Air Commandos are trained and ready to execute special operations missions anywhere in the world with little to no notice; we demand a lot from our Airmen and their families here at home and abroad that can create a certain amount of stress. The place our Airmen ultimately call home can often help alleviate some of that stress.”

Maitre continued by stating that when construction began in August 2013, Cannon had 761 homes available to Airmen that were all in need of renovations. Now there are 378 updated homes with plans to have over 1,000 available by 2017.

BBC staff members and curious spectators accompanied Peacock and his wife on a tour of the couple’s new home, a distinct variation of previous base housing. Now two stories with an expansive layout, updated appliances and modern hardware selections, the home left touring members in awe of what is now the new Cannon Family Housing.

“All of this is incredibly exciting,” Peacock stated. “Cannon’s mission continues to grow and it fits that the housing community would grow with it. The home is beautiful and we are thankful to BBC for putting this together for us.”

Following the ribbon cutting, BBC invited all in attendance to an open house of their new community center located in the Chavez Housing area just off base. The new facility features a pool, sand volleyball courts, baseball diamond and a small fitness room complete with children’s play area. This facility is also the new consolidated location for Cannon’s Housing Office.

“When we took over privatized housing for Cannon, we promised to make every effort to provide quality living for these Air Commandos and their loved ones, and that is still our goal,” stated Dorothy Molina, BBC community manager. “We are here to work for our base community and offer competitive housing options for those members lucky enough to be part of special operations at Cannon. Come out and tour our homes or give us a call when you are considering living options in our area – I think you will be happy you did.”
