Dead Airman in Clovis identified

A 27th Special Operations Wing Airman who was found dead in his Clovis home July 6 has been identified.

Senior Airman William J. Boyd, 27, of Jackson, Miss., was found by one of his roommates Tuesday afternoon.

“This tragedy comes as a shock,” said Col. Ben Maitre, the base commander. “Every member of this elite unit is a critical part of our Air Commando family here. We are grieving alongside Airman Boyd’s family and friends, and extend our heartfelt condolences to them.”

Boyd served as an instrument and flight control systems journeyman for 27th Special Operations Aviation Maintenance Squadron at Cannon since joining the Air Force in January 2013. Boyd is survived by his parents.

Base officials said the body will soon be transported to Jackson where funeral arrangements are being made. Members of Boyd’s unit are planning a memorial service in his honor at the base chapel July 12.

The cause of death is currently being investigated and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
