CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Air Force Personnel Center career development professionals visited Cannon Air Force Base July 8-10 to share helpful information pertaining to assignments.
The team hosted multiple briefings as well as one-on-one appointments to answer questions and speak about unique situations.
“These events are very career broadening,” said Master Sgt. Nicole Hicks, noncommissioned officer in charge of mission support assignments. “It gives insight on the assignments process and a peak under the tent to see how assignments are handled at the AFPC level.”
The team was invited by Air Force Special Operations Command to visit CAFB, in particular to educate Air Commandos about their assignment options.
“We have been having issues with people feeling stuck: like once they got to Cannon, they couldn’t leave,” said 1st Lt. Katelyn Unrath, the 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron chief of career development. “AFPC came to expel rumors and teach members the best ways to get assignments.”
Unrath said Airmen enjoyed being enlightened from when they previously thought they were coded for certain assignment locations.
“There was a maintainer who thought he couldn’t go anywhere but to Cannon, and he found out there was more available than he thought,” Unrath said.
One Airman said the visit provided him with valuable information.
“I think the most important take away from this event is to know what’s out there,” said Senior Airman Matthew. “Pay attention to what you’re putting as a preference, pay attention to your codes and your spouse’s air force specialty code, as well.”
