CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Cannon welcomed Military Legislative Assistants for U.S. Sens. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich Oct. 11, immersing the congressional delegation in the 27th Special Operations Wing mission and capabilities on a base tour here.
Matt Padilla, MLA for Udall, and Tony Samp, MLA for Heinrich, toured key 27 SOW facilities, focusing on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; specialized mobility; and new construction at Cannon and Melrose Air Force Range.
“Visits from Congressional delegations let us show off our Air Commandos’ professionalism, resilience and dedication,” said Col. Mike Conley, 27th Special Operations Wing vice commander. “They also give us a chance to discuss our needs with our country’s lawmakers.”
Samp and Padilla will take the experiences and conversations from their in-depth look at Cannon’s unique mission set back to Heinrich and Udall, providing research and offering advice on military legislation in New Mexico.
“As the western home of the Air Commando, we took the opportunity to inform our Senators from New Mexico on the specialized skills and equipment we bring to the fight,” Conley said.
The day-long tour placed emphasis on the 27 SOW mission: to execute specialized airpower from a premier installation.
