Colonel Clifton Johnson is Deputy Commander of Operations at 27 Special Operations Wing, Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico providing combat ready forces to joint force commanders around the world. The 27th Special Operations Wing provides unconventional air power any place, any time, anywhere. The men and women of the operational squadrons perform a variety of specialized airpower missions including precision strike, Intelligence Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, battlefield mobility, helicopter aerial refueling, and other specialized combat support missions. As the Deputy Commander of Operations, he directs training and readiness for eleven squadrons operating various special operations aircraft including the CV-22 Osprey, AC-130W Stinger II, AC-130J Ghostrider, MC-130J Commando II, MQ-9 Reaper, and U-28 Draco.
Colonel Johnson commissioned through Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia in June 2005. He completed the Air and Space Basic Course in August 2005. He graduated from pilot training in November 2007. He is a command pilot with 20 years of active service and over 3,000 flight hours. Prior to his current position, he was the Chief of Programming, Force Structure, and Basing Division, Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Florida.
