When watering lawns, consider ways to save water.
On average, housing residents or home owners provide up to three times more water than is necessary for healthy growth and maintenance. Adjust your sprinklers to avoid watering pavement and other things that don't grow.
Avoid watering when rain is in the weather forecast. Hand-water dry spots rather than over-watering the entire lawn.
Have a coworker who tries to save energy for the Air Force? Nominate him or her for a 27th Fighter Wing Energy Award. Call 784-4654 for details.
Viper Volunteers sought
Do you know outstanding volunteers at Cannon? If so, consider recognizing their efforts through the Viper Volunteer Award program. Selected nominees receive a 27th Fighter Wing coin and recognition for their efforts. For more information, contact the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 784-4228.
Airmen who participated in the tornado cleanup should submit their name, rank, squadron and contact information to Jean Cole at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are considering separating or retiring within the next year pre-separation counseling at the Airman and Family Readiness Center is mandatory and should be taken before the Transition Assistance Program Seminar (TAPS). For an appointment, call 784-4228
Electronic pest control
In accordance with DoDI 4150.7, DoD Pest Management Program, outdoor electronic pest control equipment and insect surveillance devices are not authorized for use by anyone other than trained personnel in Military Family Housing. These items include but are not limited to bug zappers, propane operated mosquito traps and ultrasonic repellants.
These devises pose safety risks such at fire and electrocution hazards, and have been proven to increase pest populations when not implemented properly. In addition, the pests intended to be controlled by such devices are commonly disease vectors. Improper utilization may cause a higher risk of disease.
With these factors in mind, the 27th Civil Engineer Squadron asks personnel to be cognizant of the potential hazards and cease use of any such devices immediately.
Questions or concerns in regards to such items may be directed to the 27th CES at 784-2439. Any pest control issues in base housing should be directed to Housing Maintenance at 784-8363.
