CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Air Force Assistance Fund for Cannon Air Force Base started on March 26 and will continue to May 4.
‘Taking Care of Our Own’, the theme of this year, hopes to perpetuate the ongoing efforts of Airmen assisting Airmen through the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Village, Air Force Enlisted Village, and General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.
“The Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign is an annual, on-the-job fundraising appeal conducted among Air Force personnel for the benefit of Air Force personnel,” said Master Sgt. Marc Calhoun, 27th Special Operations Wing assistant instillation project officer for the AFAF.
In 2017, the AFAF helped Cannon Airmen and their families by providing $165,930 in assistance funds in multiple areas of need from food, housing, and emergency travel to car repair and educational grants. That same year, Cannon Air Commandos helped raise $44,592 - those charitable donations directly aided members of the Air Force through services such as grants and loans. This year, Cannon’s campaign goal is to raise $72,475.
Donations to the AFAF can be made by cash, check or money order. Military members also have the option of automatic payroll allotments. Finding the AFAF unit representative could streamline the contribution process.
“AFAF benefits Big ‘A’ Airmen across the board in their time of need through one of the four organizations under its banner,” Calhoun said.
