Air Force Assistance Fund campaign through May 1 Published April 13, 2015 By Staff Sgt. Alex Mercer 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is currently underway and will go through May 1. This year’s theme, “Committed to Caring,” hopes to perpetuate the ongoing efforts of Airmen assisting Airmen through various charities such as the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Village, Air Force Enlisted Village, and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation. “The Air Force Assistance Fund is a great way for members to help take care of our Air Force family during times of need,” said Capt. Jonathan Laughrun, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron. “This is one of the ways our Air Commandos can guarantee their donations will directly benefit wingmen and their families.” In 2014, the AFAF helped more than 300 Airmen with more than $190,000 in assistance funds. Last year, Cannon Air Commandos helped raise more than $67,300 – these charitable donations directly aided members of the Air Force through services such as grants and loans. Cannon officials hope to raise more than $80,000 during the 2015 campaign. “Every unit has a volunteer able to facilitate donations from members,” Laughrun stated. “These volunteers have all the necessary knowledge and paperwork to assist Air Commandos by selflessly helping their Air Force families through these contributions.” Anyone is able to make donations to the AFAF by cash, check or money order. Active-duty service members and retired military personnel are also able to have funds donated via the payroll deduction program. Laughrun and other representatives encourage everyone to donate what they are able, reminding members that this directly promotes the wingman concept.
