27th Special Operations Support Squadron The 27th Operations Support Squadron was constituted on Oct. 28, 1991, and activated on Nov. 1, 1991, to develop, maintain, and support combat capability for the defense of the nation. It was re-designated the 27th Special Operations Support Squadron in 2007 in conjunction with the wing's new designation as a special operations wing. The men and women assigned to the 27 SOSS perform staff functions for the mission and responsibilities to include: Aircrew Flight Equipment; Air Traffic Control Operations; Aircraft and Flight Scheduling; Airfield Management; Airspace Management; Electronic Combat; Intelligence; Group Tactics; Melrose Air Force Range Control; Drop Zones and Landing Zones; Opposing Forces; Training; Weather Forecasting; HAVE ACE/Joint office; and Medical Support. The 27 SOSS provides support and expeditionary combat Airmen in order for the 27th Special Operations Wing to train, deploy, and conduct combat operations. Their one and only objective is "World Class Support." All personnel work as an integrated unit to ensure the squadron's around-the-clock mission capability is maintained, that all customers' needs are met, and that relationships are continually strengthened. The 27 SOSS supports: 73rd Special Operations Squadron; 3rd Special Operations Squadron; 33rd Special Operations Squadron; 318th Special Operations Squadron; 20th Special Operations Squadron; 522nd Special Operations Squadron; 524th Special Operations Squadron; 551st Special Operations Squadron; 16th Special Operations Squadron; 27th Special Operations Group; 27th Special Operations Wing and other higher echelons of special operations commands. Each member of the diverse unit receives professional military training and education common to all Airmen, as well as specialized upgrade training in each individual career specialty. Members of the 27 SOSS continually deploy as expeditionary combat Airmen to contingencies throughout the world. Additionally, 27 SOSS Airmen deploy in support of training exercises world-wide.
